I got him three ago from the pound, he had been abused in the past and was a bit angry at times. He was a very good dog 95% of the time, but at times he would growl and snap at people. It had always been a more minor issue. Today while my sister was baby sitting he went after her and didn't back down. Like the vet said, there was no other choice. He was only five years old. We tried hard and thought we had turned him into a loving companion, but he just couldn't get over what ever had happened to him in the past. We had him for almost exactly three years.
Aw, that is one sad story. I've rescued my share of abused dogs over the years and had a couple of "incidents" but luckily both times the victim was understanding. So sorry for your loss; unfortunately-- like people who have been abused, an animal can't always overcome their fear and anxiety. Luckily many can and some of my best pets over the years came from horrible circumstances.

so sorry for your loss... try to take comfort in the fact that he did have 3 GREAT years with you.... loved, warm, fed, secure and cared for..... it is just so sad that whoever did whatever they did to him damaged him so badly that he was not able to recover, in spite of your care and reassurance..... he is no longer suffering the mental pain inflicted upon him by the cretins in his previous life......
he sure was a handsome fella!!

Do you suppose that people who abuse animals and children have a special place in Hades waiting for them?
oh yes.... in my world, most DEFINITELY a VERY special place.....
I'm so sorry for your loss...what a tough situation. You did your best and gave him three wonderful years he might not have had. You showed him what it is to be loved and safe, and even though he couldn't be rehabilitated, he got to experience these things because of the love in your heart, and that is something beautiful. His anxiety and emotional scars are now in the past, and he is happy, healthy, and frolicking at rainbow bridge, grateful to the humans who set his spirit free. (((HUGS)))
Thanks everyone. I get my new pound puppy on Tuesday. A little girl about three months old. Chihuahua mixed with something else. I'll try to get some pics up when she comes home.
So sorry for your loss. You were able to give him three more quality years than he would have otherwise had. All you can do is your best and you did more than many would have in your position.
