Broccoli sounds like he was a wonderful boy. Tell us how he got his name.

His name was a bit of a chuckle. Officially it was Barkley, with a string of lineage behind it. My DW is a former dog breeder/show dog type and he was from a distinguished line of championship standard poodles.
Personally I couldn't have cared less about the breeding, but don't tell my wife that. He was just a lovable guy, though I always had to secure my shoes. He had a fondness for carrying them off to play with, as well as an addiction to chasing butterflies.
He never caught one that I know of, but that didn't deter his efforts. A field of clover was his favorite playground.
My wife's youngest granddaughter could never pronounce Barkley correctly and started calling him Broccoli, and so it became. It was as fine a name as I could imagine.
When one reflects upon what is really valuable in life, I'd have to vote that the companionship of a fine dog is right up there with most other true joys in this existence. Enjoy them while you may. JMO
