Peedee is an 11 year old mutt mix (American Eskimo & Beagle). She is a diabetic dog and it has been hard to get her regulated. We are still trying but still no success.
She stopped eating on the 3rd of July. She has been "panting" for the past day. Last night she trew up yellow bile with very small amounts of blood in it. This morning she is very uncordinated and can't seem to stand up. She has been making noises as if she is very uncomfortable. Not crying but it is hard to describe.
The earliest my vet can see us is 2pm. I am on the fence about waiting to see if she improves or just putting her down now.
Her pup is also a diabetic and he went through something very similar to this about a month ago. He didn't eat for four days and had the exact same symptoms. I am wondering if I should wait and see if Peedee pulls through too?
She went peacefully (as peacefully as she could) and I was there with her.
I am deeply saddened by her loss however she was having trouble with the diabetes and blindness. SHe hasn't been living a "full life" for six months now and now she is at the bridge with her mother.....
Was the vet aware of the dog's symptoms when they made the appointment? I take my animals to a large animal hospital. If I were to call them with a pet in the condition you describe, they would say to come immediately and we would be brought back to a room and at least be seen by the nurse right away.
Personally, I'd push to be seen ASAP. When I met with the vet, I'd make it clear that you have already considered that it might be time to let the dog go. My experience with several vets over the years has been they hate to bring it up and are relieved when you interrupt their description of an extensive and uncertain treatment plan to say "would it by kinder to put the dog down? I am prepared for that." Their reaction will probably tell you quite a bit. Once you've have brought it up, they usually give a very certain answer one way or the other. If they have to bring it up, they have to be too careful about how they word it.
I am really sorry that PeeDee and you are going through this.
I have been thinking for a while I was just postponing the inevitable with the diabetes/insulin treatments. I felt she wasn't really enjoying life anymore but she still wagged her tail and enjoyed being petted.
From the time I called the vet until she passed was only 45 minutes so getting her there would have only put her through the stress of dying in a strange place. She passed where she often napped so she was in familiar surroundings.

Wartrace, it is so hard when one of our pets dies. Very sorry to hear of your loss.
