Mr. Hobbs was euthanized today. We took him to the vet Friday a.m. after a terrible night when he lost control of his legs, was clearly in pain, and disoriented. Vet suspected a spinal tumor. Our vet waited (on a Sunday!) for us to drive 2 hrs. to the clinic so we could be with Hobbs during the euthanesia. 10 years with this sweet dog adopted from the shelter. He was a good friend to me and Hunter Wold and a buddy to Chester cat. When Hobbs was about to pass, I told him to go find Daddy Hunter Wold up there in heaven.
Thank you for your condolences. Hobbs was such a sweet dog that I'm afraid to get another dog because it wouldn't be like him. A new thing I heard about that can be done with pet ashes: my vet's cremation service gives the ashes in a cardboard box which has flower seeds in it so when the box is buried, flowers come up! Lovely idea. I will plant the box but Hobb's ashes go into a nice pet urn I found on eBay.
Sorry for your loss of Hobbs. Don't be afraid to get another dog because it will not be like him as that is the blessing of another dog it will not be like your previous dog instead it will be a new individual that will fill your heart with love and teach you new things. I always tell people loosing a dog is heartbreaking sad but what would be even sadder to me would to not have known all the dogs I have shared my life with over the years as each was so special in their own way and brought something different to my life. Yes the pain I have felt at each loss was well worth it.
