We are having our dog euthanized tomorrow due to kidney failure. Any advice? (clinic, how)

Pepper is a 16 1/2 year old Lab, so she has had a good and long life, but we are naturally very sad as we have had her since she was two months old. I know it will be terrible for us tomorrow, so does anyone have any advice regarding either the vet visit or for us afterward (or even before)? Or any advice as to how we can make it easier for Pepper?
Thank you in advance.

If your vet will do a house call (or would refer you to someone who will) it might make it less stressful for your dog to start her journey from surroundings that don't suggest the vet's clinic. Talk the plan over so everyone knows what will happen and why. Leading up to the appointment take her someplace she loves to visit, favorite treats, some gentle little activity she loves, etc. The part I personally find hardest is trying not to let my dog pick up on how upset I am during the event. Don't want that to contribute to her anxiety.
Remind yourselves that she's had a great life with you and that she might not be enjoying life much at this point. You are ending her misery and possibly fear at increasing disability and discomfort. Remind yourself that dogs live in the moment...they don't agonize over the past or the future. What is is what is and that's what matters. Talk about the happy times you spent with your dog; no reason to avoid the topic. Talk and reminiscence is part of grieving. Its tough, I know!

ur vet doesn't make house calls. Unfortunately. And we live 60 miles from the nearest vet who might.
(We had trouble even finding a vet when we moved here two years ago. There are only three vets in our county, and this was the only one who would even take new patients.)
Yes, it went as well as could be expected. After the sedation injection, she walked over to my husband who cradled her, and it was as though she just went to sleep in his arms. Very gentle and peaceful
