I agree about not putting an older pet through a bunch of stress with unneeded medical treatments. Better to let them go as peacefully and painlessly as possible!
For those who could not bear to be with a pet at the end, it really is like going to sleep, coma then death. You do indeed see the light go out of their eyes when they die.
I had a young friend with me yesterday, to help carry Emma. He had never been at a pet's euth before and he was struck by how the light faded from her eyes. He worked in a hospital before, part of the "code team" and he said it was like that with people, too - the light fading part that is.
I don't come in here very often, I am sorry that I missed Emma's passing, southernbelle! ((((tight hugs)))) She was so loved, and will be very much missed. But I too believe she is in a better place now sending lots of happy purring contented snuggles to you in your dreams.
I didn't see this until just now... don't usually come here. I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad it was an easy transition for your little girl, Emma. Sending hugs your way...

Oh SouthernBelle, I am so sorry. I haven't been on here for a while and just read this. I am so sorry for your loss.
We are facing a similar situation with our 20 year old dog. Not quite there but I hope we have the compassion and courage that you had when the time comes.
SouthernBelle: I don't know how I possibly could have missed this. I am so very sorry for your loss of Emma. Sweet, sweet dreams Emma!
((Hugs))
