What is the potential for finding a job in the Triangle area and what is the salary range possible with a masters degree in Library Science & Information Technology with an emphasis in the Health Sciences?

We have two good medical/health research libraries here: Duke and UNC. But we also have UNC's School of Information & Library Science, typically ranked #1 in the country for MLS/MSIS programs. Or are you already enrolled? What this means is, there is a whole class of graduates every year competing for library jobs (though not all are health sci libraries, of course).

Are you currently a student at UNC-SILS? If not, you will have very stiff comeptition from their graduates anywhere in this area for library jobs unless you have experience. Most of them get internships working at the various local health science libraries or the EPA.

I am a graduate of UNC-SILS who almost went into the health sciences track, so you can PM me for specifics...but as I say, with the #1 school right here as well as NC Central's Library Science program, competition for library jobs is much, much stiffer than it would be somewhere there aren't so many freshly-minted (experienced) librarians every year.

Might suggest speaking to a head hunter if they have them down there to see what the job prospects look like. Best of luck!
