Hello All,
I will be moving to the area and will need a new bank. I do not want to do business with BofA if possible, and pretty much none of the other banks that come up in a Google search are familiar to me. Does anyone have recommendations on a good place to open a checking and savings account?
Are you looking for a community bank or credit union? I'm assuming if you don't want to deal with BOA then you don't want to deal with the big guys (Wachovia is Wells Fargo). Check out moveyourmoney.info for a list of places to bank. You can search by area code. I think First Citizens Bank & Trust is a good option.
Fidelity Bank is a nice bank. I have a couple of accounts with them. They're building a new bank by Wal Mart, and have branches throughout the Triangle. I like them because they are very personal. They know you by name when you come in. They're still privately owned, if I'm not mistaken.
Crescent State Bank has been in business about 15 years, and has branches throughout the Triangle, Sanford, Wilmington...not sure where else. Four Oaks Bank has been around about 10 years or so...don't know much about them, but know they have a branch in Fuquay, as well as Holly Springs.
Wachovia and RBC have branches at Sunset Lake/Holly Springs Road, they're bigger banks, of course.
State Employee's Credit Union has branches all over the state, but you have to be connected to a current member to get in there. I also have accounts with them, and they are very good to deal with.
I am in Holly Springs and you can deposit all your money right at my house. I can make no promises on withdrawals though
