I was surprised when they closed all the stores this afternoon that they don't have a standby generator and lots of people milling around, so a serious hit to the revenues of the stores there. I counted 3 fire trucks plus plenty of other emergency vehicles so must have been a serious electrical fire. There was no power across the street in the Renaissance Center either, so quite a widespread outage in the area. It demonstrates how fragile our modern lifestyle is when no power means the computerised cash registers don't operate; at least I saved some money by not being able to buy anything

WRAL said 3000 were without power in the area. I don't know why you would expect them to have a standby generator for that large of a place, that would be a cost even higher than closing the mall with the infrequent amount of times that would ever happen.

Good thing it didn't happen tomorrow with everybody lined up trying to buy their new iPhones at the Apple Store...

Lots of people go to the mall to enjoy the air conditioning...couldn't have been a good day for them either!

The malls and stores don't run generators. If the power goes out, it goes out.
