I think that's possible. Unless he can overlook it for the charm of the town - it's really quite charming! They have an annual Dennis Kuchinich day. Here's a great overview of Carrboro, you could show this to him and see what he thinks

That was pretty funny. Thanks.

I think he'll be fine. He's not a Bush fan anyway, believe it or not. But he threatens to leave the country if Hillary is elected.

I think Chapel Hill is a lovely place to live, though I've only been here a year myself. Compared to bigger cities I have lived in, yes it's quite family oriented. There have been several comments on this above already though. I've had no trouble making friends quickly here. But it helps a bit to have a baby that everyone wants to say "hi" to with me.
We chose the Colony Woods area but the Briarcliff area just the other side of Ephesus Church road is also lovely. Both have many 60's homes with plenty of woods, ranging from 1400 to 3500 square feet. Southern Village is very nice if a bit pricey with smaller plots and newer homes around a square that can serve many of your needs. Perhaps a bit of a contrived village atmosphere but I think it works. Meadowmont is similar with bigger pricier homes but a less successful commercial center.
I'd recommend my realestate agent, Barbara Pipkin at The Home Team for when you're ready to look at houses.
If you want to build you might have to go outside the school district for land in Orange County. Contact me about good contractors etc. if you want to go that way.
You might also want to look at this site. www.chapelhillneighbor.org - Chapel Hill Neighbor Community: ChapelHillNeighbor.org
for more real time stuff going on.

Chapel Hill is defintely the last place around here a republican would want to live lol. If you do move there, watch out for foundation issues with the houses. Many areas of Chapel Hill have expansive clay soil which wreaks havoc on the structure(I am a building inspector). My earlier post about higher taxes and overpriced homes was my polite way of saying it is a highly liberal town You probably wont lose any money moving there though....the appreciation rate is steady. Down below Chapel Hill towards/in Chatham County there are some absolutely beautful spots!

I'm kind of happy all of you people find Durham to be less desirable. It keeps the housing costs down and I'll be in the market to buy at some point.

Chapel Hill is definitely desirable. I poke fun at it, but it really is a great place to live and their school system is better than most.

This just in. Hubby says he would NOT live in Carrboro after spending 10 years in the "People's Republic of Massachusetts".

Default I'm a real estate agent in Chapel Hill.

Stephanie--

Chapel Hill is a lovely place to live. I've been here for eleven years(grew up in New Orleans) and I'm never moving again!

Good luck.

Tell him he'll get 12% annual return on his investment in your home, due to the restrictions on development imposed by the communists, and their commitment to funding education. Perhaps he'll come around.
