Assuming nothing bad happens and we do move into the house we think we're buying in Durham (see previous post), I'd like to find a place for my husband to fly his RC planes.

Does anyone else share his hobby? If so, where do you fly? He flies gas powered planes for the most part, but has had some electric planes. He's just started fooling around with a helicopter, but to be honest, I can't remember whether it was gas or electric. I must confess, I find the hobby utterly boring, but it makes him happy. I'd love to tell him I'd found a place for him to go. After all, I've already told him we'll be 6 minutes from Super Target and 12 minutes from Whole Foods. My needs have been met.

Coming from a family of RC fanatics, I can relate! My parents are coming down to visit (first time since we moved) and I did some research to try and find a place for my dad to fly his plane with my kids... but I had a hard time finding anything. Luckily we live next to a large field that can be used, but I was trying to find a larger area. Maybe someone else knows of a place?

Good luck!

Default Two years later and still looking

We've been in Durham for two years now and couldn't be happier unless, of course, I could find a place for my husband to fly his RC planes. He's certainly earned it after all the hard work he put into renovating the house. It'd be nice if he didn't have to drive an hour to get to a field.

We live on the west side of Durham. Someone once mentioned a dirt field on the east side of Durham, but I haven't been able to locate it thus far. At this point I'd be happy if I could just find a place for him to fly his park flyers.

Any suggestions?

I've seen people flying them at Lake Crabtree Park (just south of RDU). There is a large open area of grass there next to the lake. Presume it's allowed, but don't know for sure...
