Hi everyone, I'm looking for an eye doctor somewhere in Durham. I hate to think I'll have to just pick one from my insurance list. I'm insured by Duke if anyone out there is family with doctors insured by Duke. If you're not I'd still like to hear from you about your eye doctor and I can check the list myself.

Thanks so much!

Is that the Duke Eye Center at Southpoint?
Do you like one of the doctors in particular?

Thanks for responding!

We go to the main eye center right in the heart of Durham, next to the hospital. Some of the doctors do have office hours in outlying facilities specific days of the week. Check the website for that information. The website is very good. Our experience has been with specialists in macular degeneration (top notch, one of the best in the country), cataracts and glaucoma. My mom had eye surgery and is dong very well. Send me a PM if you want some names.

The only thing about Duke is that they seem to overbook, so you end up waiting 3-4 hours sometimes, and that's not right. But they are among the best.

The Duke doctors are great. There is one doctor I would recommend you not seeing. pm me for the name. We called the doctor "doctor remake" since the rx was always wrong! I used to work in optical and found that I had no problems with rx issues with most of the other doctors. Make certain that they give you a copy of your rx even if it hasn't changed with an expiration date. Otherwise it will take days to get your rx from records!
