Thanks for the map, it tells me exactly what I needed to know. It's close enough to me in Holly Springs to be an asset without being a noise issue--sorry for those that it is. Not loving the toll road but they were putting one in where we moved from anyway. In that case the money had already been collected from taxes but the governor decided it should be a toll road instead--gave the project to some foreign company his former aide was a lobbiest for. The local city councils take was that the people in that part of town had plenty of money so who cared that they had already paid for it years before in taxes. Fortunately, or unfortunately if you had to drive in traffic in Northcentral San Antonio gridlock, it was over our aquafer so the environmentalists shut it down for awhile. Despite being opposed to the road back in TX my husband will probably use this one as it will make it much faster to get to his job in Garner. Hoping it will help my property value as well.

Oh drat! I'm screwed

http://www.ncturnpike.org/pdf/Newsle...ssue2Final.pdf

Option 1: Cross 401 just north of Ten-Ten
Option 2: Cross 401 at Wake Tech
Option 3: Cross 401 down near Fuquay

My neighborhood is way too close to 540 if option 1 or 2 is chosen.
I can sleep peacefully if option 3 is chosen.

Thanks for posting your newsletter link!
Southern Wake County will soon be renamed "Nimbyville."

And three years before they select a route/option?
Put the real estate market deeper in the deep freeze, they will.

The alternatives between 70 and 40, especially at the Johnston County line, look like something my one year old drew!

Wow, I didn't even know a southern option through Fuquay was even on the table. It looks like this option would head south out of Holly Springs through the Bass Lake area. Some neighborhoods that could be affected would be Sunset Ridge, Bentwinds, Ballentine.

I like the idea of having access to 540, but I don't want it anywhere near me. I saw what they did to Scotts Mill.

I received the NCTA South East extension newsletter today (with the map New User linked to ) and like Saucy Aussie said that southern route looks like it would cut right down Bass Lake Road... I know it's just a proposal but say it ain't so!

It splits Holly Springs in two.

Looking at the map a little closer, I see that the route does track Bass Lake for about 1/2 mile south of Holly Springs Rd but then veers to the right and passes Bass Lake to the West. It then hooks up with Herbert Atkins Rd and crosses Sunset Lake Rd at Brookshire Dr, right between Bentwinds and Ballentine. Lots of 500K+ houses in there on Brookshire Dr, I guess they would all get bulldozed?

Just strange that this is the first time this route has come up. Seems to me that if they wanted to bring 540 down to Fuquay then they could have bypassed Holly Springs to the west instead of going straight through it.

I think from a traffic and use perspective, the southern routes are preferred.
But, there is a LOT of surface water to be bridged, making it expensive and environmentally challenging.
The older maps and the flyover all show the southernmost northern option for placement, south of 1010 road, crossing 401 nearer to Optimist Farm Rd.

DOT owns several parcels that have a "corridor look" to them in that area.

It makes no sense to me to take the northernmost route, and to spend a billion or so putting a toll road within a few miles of 440, then swinging traffic from I40 West into a due west loop, bypassing Apex.
And, aligning 540 with the 70 Bypass for Clayton seems to make sense.

Like 540 around Cary and Apex, the Southern Extension will be studied and talked to death, and will probably follow the current mapping.

Not sure if it was answered but there was a recommendation for the toll to be $0.14 / 0.22 a mile.

0.14 is if you get the transponder
0.22 is if you go by video plate ID.

The study shows how much they can charge and when it will cut into usages. It's almost like it's being done for profit not and not to actually just pay for the road. Like how much can we eek out of the users before they will take another route.

I think it's something like $2.50 if you travel the entire length. They estimated ~65-70,000 dollars in revenue each weekday. The plan also recommend doubling the rates by 2035.

I got the mailer today. Pretty interesting to see all the paths they are considering for the southern expansion.
