While I've never been in any of the apartments, I've heard folks really like living there. The spaces look nice with exposed bricks and beams and huge windows.
As for the area, it seems to be getting better every day. The West Village complex has recently added a wine bar (West End) and a great restaurant (Pop's), as well as some retail boutique shopping like Magpie. It is also replacing one Italian restaurant (Tosca) with another one in the same place (Cinelli's). WV is also home to Durham's new Amtrak station and is right across the street from Durham Station, the local and regional bus station. Again, this is all within West Village. What's best about WV, though, is that its positioned right in betwee downtown, American Tobacco and Brightleaf Square. All of those areas offer a lot of shopping/dining/drinking/entertainment establishments.
