I know this post is long, but I really need your help. I need the good people of citydata.com to give me the "peoples choice", lol. Me and my four yr old daughter will be relocating to Durham at the end of Sept. My husband is already down in Durham; he is in the TROSA program. He already has a job, so he will not have to worry about finding one. I on the other hand will, and I have been sending in resumes online to different companies. Right now I am an Administrative Asst. for a Home Health Care agency. I know that Durham and the surrounding areas have home health care, but is there a "top dog" in home health care agencies down there, lol!!! I also was wondering if you could give any advice on apartments/sm houses. We are willing to pay up to $750 on rent but do not want to live in a bad location. And maybe to some of you that price is low, but we do not want to start off and then get ourselves in a bind. I need advice on apartments, good daycares, pediatricians, cell phone companies, power, water, EVERYTHING!!!
We just moved here the end of June from NY and love it here...hope you will too. I found apartmentratings.com very helpful. Watchout for all the application/administration/movein fees...many of them can be upwards of $150 so definitely compare. As for utilities, whatever rental you end up with will have info on who the providers are for your area but some of the longer term Durham residents may have more info for you. I found daycare to be comparable cost-wise here and ended up at a Kindercare center myself. Oh and I found out after moving here that the Durham school system doesn't do preschool..you're on your own there. Good luck!
The good news is that your admin assistant skills should translate to ANY company. I understand you probably want to stick with home health since it's what you know, but I would check craigslist and apply to any admin assistant job out there. You can always turn down offers that you don't want. Good luck to your family! I've heard great things about TROSA.
Thanks guys!...Trosa has saved out families life. I have been on apartmentrating.com and looked around...I think I have been on every apartment/rental/home web page there is, lol. Question...and this may be a silly one, once on a website about apartments, it seems like they are all combined, or owned by the same person/company. Once you put in a app, do you have to put in one for each apartment complex? I have been on craigslist alot and they do have alot of admin asst. positions, so I will be applying to those also. It just seems like the everything is happening so fast and I am clueless as where to start...I thought this would be easier, ugh. But it will come together. Anything else you can think of just post it, thanks!!!
Durham is definitely a great place to live. As others have mentioned, check those sites for apt search. For job searches, along with craigslist, careerbuilder.com might also be a good avenue. For preschools, it depends on the quality you are looking for. Goddard has a great reputation for premier care for kids and a brand new school is coming up in Durham (check Goddard School Early Childhood Education: Childcare Beyond Daycare) Good luck with your move and welcome to Durham.
