Is there a "rule" of a certain age that kids can walk around the mall (ie: Crabtree, Southpoint, Triangle Town, etc) unsupervised without an adult? And yes, I'm talking about parents dropping off their young children to walk around the mall. I'm talking tweens, not teens. Just wondering what age would be considered "child endangerment" if any.
As a parent, I can envision trusting my daughter enough to do this (with a friend or two) when she's 11-12, although I would respect the malls' policies if they wanted kids to be older. My daughter is only six now, so perhaps I'll change my tune when the time comes!

This just came up for me with my 12 yr old. I told her I'd take her and her friend to the mall, I'll sit and read a book or use my laptop, and she could go shopping with her friend. But, she has to check in with me at pre-determined times to say which store she's at. We'll do this in baby steps until I can trust she's mature enough. And I'll be close by if she needs me.
Also, unrelated but the next time she needs clothes we'll do the same. She will email me photos of what she wants to buy, I'll ok it and she'll do the transaction out of her budgeted $$ This is b/c it's no longer cool to spend hrs at the mall with mom clothes shopping. Fine by me too, if I have to go to Hollister one more time I'll lose my hearing
....if I have to go to Hollister one more time I'll lose my hearing
What is UP with that? Don't they realize we'd spend more time in there, if they'd turn it down? I like loud music, don't get me wrong...but not that loud in an enclosed area.
I'm pretty sure that TTC is the only one with laws regarding ages and supervision. In general, I think it's usually around age 12 (plus or minus) just based on what my own teens and their friends did. I think some younger kids might be allowed to walk around with a friend for a bit if the parents are at the mall. (for example, I let my 9 year old and her 10 year old friend browse around Justice for 30 minutes while I did something else in a store close by and we met at a bench right outside that store.)
Mine aren't old enough to shop at Hollister or the other tweeny shops but it's the cologne cloud that creeps out of those stores that makes me ill.....I hate walking by those shops. They smell!!! So, not only would I go deaf from the music but I'd choke from the fumes. My oldest is 5, so I think I may have a little time before we go to those places.....eeek!
