I've never heard of any, but maybe there is through a church if you belong to one?

not certain how you feel about marital counseling through a church, but i would recommend checking into that route. we had friends attend some at providence baptist church & it worked like this -- 3-5 sessions with a pastor trained in counseling & thereafter the church would help locate further pro bono or reduced-fee counseling as needed.

that is just one recommendation.

you may also check with the YMCA or other community-based programs.

Many therapists operate on a "sliding scale," meaning that they charge you what you can afford.

My brother and sister-in-law sought counseling this way after he was laid-off and developed depression.

Here's the name of one therapist that came up by googling "sliding scale" and "Raleigh." I am sure that there are many who will use a sliding scale.

Check your benefits at work as well. Some employers include it through the health insurance or you call a hotline number for referrals.

I will be calling about the sliding scale one today. THANK YOU.
I checked with my insurance...I have to pay a $3500 deductible before anything is covered. With this economy...its impossible for us.

If your employer has an "Employee Assistance Program" (not exactly the same thing as health insurance), a limited number of counseling benefits is often available through that.

I hope you find something, good luck.

i know that the providence baptist church i mentioned above did counseling for non-members. i assume that there are at least some other churches that do that. it couldn't hurt to check with area churches with whome you would be comfortable dealing. many larger churches have information on their websites with contact information.
