Funny, the queue up (or "cattle herd") system is the reason I don't prefer to fly Southwest. I'd much rather pick out my seat when I'm making my reservation online and then just chill out at the airport instead of jockying for position with a bunch of other passengers.
There's no jockeying for position anymore. You get a number when you check in for your flight, and that's the order you board in. You just have to get line in the proper number "bin" or whatever you want to call it a couple of minutes before they start boarding your group, and you just roll right on.
it's a redeye no matter which way it's packaged. You're arriving at 2:00 in the morning your time - even if you've slept, your circadian rhythm is knackered and will take at least a day to normalize.
I rather like arriving to Europe in the early AM. I train to the hotel, drop my bags (or check in early if the room is ready) and then head out for a walk through the city to get my blood pumping and to start acquainting myself with the surroundings. I force myself to stay up all day and then simply go to bed a bit early that first night. After that, I'm pretty well adjusted.
Does anyone know of a website that helps chart changes in routes? I've been flying a NS route on AA from RDU to Columbus for a number of years, and just recently it disappeared, having an impact on my business. I'd like a way to find out more about why and how long it will be gone.
I used to hate flying Southwest. But now, I just check in online 24 hours before my flight and I usually get a boarding pass in the high A's. Then since I usually check a bag (for FREE!) I go to the terminal and reprint my boarding pass at the kiosk. So easy and stress free.
If it's been a few years since you've flown with them, give them another try. They've really made things a lot better.
