We have started to look for houses to buy in Cary, and are now expanding our search to the Chapel Hill area (for obvious reasons: good and stable school district). We have a 2 yr old and a 5-month old.
In Chapel Hill, we are looking for a 3000-4500 sqft house on at least a 20K sqft lot with mature trees, preferably built over the last 15-20 years. Open floor plan and no HOA are preferable. No cookie cutters. Price: 400 - 600K. I work at Duke and my husband in RTP (exit 279), and we would like the commute to be in the 15-30 minute range.
I'd take a look in the Chandlers Green and Stoneridge neighborhoods on the northside of town. Couple other small neighborhoods up along Whitfield Rd next to Stoneridge as well. Very easy access to Duke via Whitfield/Erwin Rd, and traffic free access to I-40 off of MLK.
