My group at work has just started a new "rewards" program for meeting certain goals each month. This is done with company approval, but we do not get company funds for the rewards. For our first month we went out to a park and played Bocce Ball and Cornhole. This month we're doing board games/card games inside.

We're looking for other free or cheap things that we can do within 2 hours during the workday. Any cost either comes out of our pockets, or from our supervisors, so we are really trying to minimize that. The AMF lanes inside the beltline off of Capital does cheap games, so that's on our list as well. Past that... we're a bit stuck. There are 8 of us in our group, and ages range from 25 - 55 with most being in the 29 - 35 range if that helps any. Oh - and since we have to come back to work (usually done over the lunch break), acohol cannot be involved.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

If you have someone handy with a tape measure, saw and such they can make what use to be called beanbag toss racks. New name for this age old game is Cornhole. Not sure where it came from but suffice to say beanbag is stuck in my vocabulary for this game. Any way for a few bucks one can make up the boards and someone else can make the 1 pound beanbags or one can purchase them. Then you can play indoors or outside, your choice or solely the choice of the outside weather conditions.

You can form teams of two and create a tourney for a week or more depending on the players. This is cheap fun low impact team building any age can participate fun! Keep the boards around the office and challenge your bosses or other departments or whom ever you like.

Here is a good explanation of the game and what the game boards look like. For less than $30 you should be able to make the game boards and have endless fun at bean bagging it. Its kind of like a kinder and gentler form of horse shoes. The boards can be painted or decorated with as simple as one coat of paint or as elaborate as your company logo or a picture of someone you may just want to bean.....all in fun of coarse!

Just a suggestion! Good luck!

Thanks! We played cornhole last month - one of us already owned a cheap set and it went over fairly well. We're trying to avoid doing the same couple of things over and over though since we have such a varied age group.

Awww just like my bean bag throws....off the mark!

Another thing that is fun with a diverse group is trivia. Mix the ages on teams and everyone knows something. Fun can be had with some trivia!
Being there are so many transplants that live here, states trivia is always a big hit!

dansdrive - thx for this! I had no idea this is what folks were talking about! I've also called it the beanbag tossing game 25yrs ago we used to have these at the elementary school carnival. Now of course it's been taken over by huge blow up slides/games.

How about visiting the free museums? Or catching a $1.50 movie mid day (especially on Tuesdays when you can get a popcorn and drink for another $2... so in 2 hours you'd have lunch and a movie done and be on your way back to work!). You could also go to a coffee shop to just chit chat and everyone could easily get out for under $5.

Everyone could pay their own way for some Mini Golf. Adventure Landing is down on Capital Blvd although Frankie's Fun Park near Brier Creek is better in my opinion.
