Anyone have the Fast Access DSL? Now that we've dropped TWC for cable, I'm looking to dump them for internet.
Has anyone gone from TWC to ATT? Did you notice a difference? We can go from the 1.5 of TWC @ $45ish to 3.0 of ATT for $14.95 or the 7.0 for $19.95 for the first year. After that they increase to $42 and $47. TWC will increase to $54 (or more).
Our only holdback is DH is concerned his xbox live connectivity will drop. So I'm looking for reviews to help convince DH to switch - and save some serious cash in the process.
If you're current connection is 1.5 from TWC and you go to 3.0 at ATT or Verizon (now Frontier) then why would your DH be worried about his XBox live connectivity? You'll be connected at a higher rate of speed PLUS it's guaranteed and you aren't sharing bandwidth with your neighbors (ever notice how the Internet gets slower between 5pm-10pm on Cable?).
We have 3Mbps Internet from Verizon and are more than happy with it. We're able to stream HD content from Netflix with no problems.
DH still carries the "stigma" with DSL that despite the speed - its automatically "slower" than a cable line in his mind. The not sharing bandwidth is definitely a good point to bring up.
And I checked our bill - we're actually at 3mps with TWC
Reviving this - just found out that at least one of my neighbors is stealing cable, which is affecting my TWC performance...causing my internet to go out. As I work from home, this is threatening my job, ultimately. Boy I can't wait to move. Anyway, I need something that isn't shared by others...so DSL looks to be it. I figure even if DSL doesn't perform as well, with the performance issues I'm having it's got to be better!
AT&T or Verizon, though? I've been using Vonage but suppose I could switch to a landline (probably better for business as well, really). I have AT&T as my wireless carrier. I need to keep my cable TV - don't want to switch to DISH because I don't want to sign that contract.
I don't know how in any way would a neighbor stealing cable effect your internet speed or performance. It would do the same if he paid for the service, I would be complaining to TWC not complaining about him.
If a neighbor is stealing your internet... you need to change (or use) a password on your wireless router - or go unplug his line from your house.
Also, you don't need an active landline to use dsl anymore.
I have to unplug his line - my router is secured but I guess they're stealing the actual cable - Time Warner guy said he found splitters hooked up to the lines! He seemed to indicate it was more than one person.
Thanks for the info - DSL seems to be the way to go...

Hm, that's a good point. Although maybe they add lines if someone is actually buying the service? I live in an apartment complex so I figure there must be a way to compensate for so many people on a line. I do have to call them - it has to be taken care of somehow.
But sorry, he's not allowed to steal my cable
