We are looking to move to the Cary Apex area and wondered if anyone could advise us on Dillard and Athens schools. Are they good for academics?
Also which location Lochmere or MagGregor

You might to check out www.wcpss.net for the schools scores. And do a web search for articles and comments about them. I have heard some negative things about Dillard but don't know how it is now. And I think you mean MacGregor Downs?? it's a nice older subdivision in Cary. Good reputation.

I was told by my realtor to check the schools out (Dillard) online because she isn't allowed to talk about schools. I did and we chose to not buy a house that would have been great because of what parents were saying about them. Check on this forum and just google it. I heard there is a new principal but we decided not to chance it with our boys. I mentioned it yesterday at a Mommy group and one of the ladies said we made the right choice...

One thing to think about...if Dillard brings in kids from other areas, this is likely to change with the new system.

Several of the doctors I work with send their kids to Ravenscroft and are very pleased with the school.

Default Dillard

About Dillard, it is actually our base school (my kids have been going to a magnet) and I'm thinking of switching the kids to all base schools. I've been talking to alot of people about Dillard for the last year and I have only heard positive things about it (We live in Lochmere and alot of the kids around here go). People seem to really like the teachers and school and to be honest I haven't heard any complaints from people with currently enrolled kids. I know in the past it hasn't had a great reputation, but the people I've talked seem to like it and it seems more and more people are opting to go there even when they have other options available. Maybe you can try to find people who are actually going there right now to get an opinion. Good Luck with your decision!

ljd1010 ........ Thank you for your feed back, sounds positive

Pilotriley ................. I know reputations die slowly and the past does not dictate the future, but does seem a mixed bag of opinions.

BTW we liked Lochmere, how was the voting for the pool complex! in favour of a take over by the residents? ( it was a big topic when we inquired about real estate a few months back)
