I really wouldn't worry about Mebane. If Mebane isn't safe enough, well I can't think of anywhere else that is. Mebane doesn't even have a bad part of town or areas to avoid.

Does it matter if you're on the Alamance or Orange side? Just wondering about the high schools?

i think there are a few posts about just this...and you have opened a can of worms LOL

we live on the Orange county side because of the schools, others have said that Alamance schools are better.

here is the deal. people are looking at the "old" numbers when it comes to state tests. also how much do state tests matter really?

i personally have seen and heard children and parents from each side and i am happy with where we chose to live. my neighbors' children are doing well and they are all happy with the schools.

you mentioned in another post about High school, so i dont know if you aslo have younger children, but there is a private school in Mebane called Bradford Academy that is very well thought of, but so far only goes to 2nd or 3rd grade as hey are starting out.

No, we only have the two in high school. We actually had them in a private Christian school until 9th grade but switched to public for high school. They're both involved in band and softball, so we'd be figuring in that factor also.

I've also heard good things about Cedar Ridge's band. Cornwallis Hills is a nice neighborhood in Hillsborough and really close to the high school. Most homes in there are over $200,000, but the older phase has homes under $200. There WAS a home for sale in your price range, but I'm not seeing it now. Hillsborough is my favorite small town, but it's tough to find anything under $200. Just keep an eye out!

We've lived in Mebane since 1999, and it is an awesome town. I am contemplating a move due to a new job, but it will be very tough to leave. I am also concerned about sex offenders, being a parent to two young girls.

There are TWO on my short STREET! The are both older guys, over 30, soliciting teenagers on myspace and other social media sites. Both now living with their parents. To be honest, I'm not too worried about them. If you want to know what the offenders actually did, in detail, to assess the threat risk, I was told the courthouse in Graham has a computer accessible to the public, with police records.

IME, however, Mebane is a very safe community.

I think it depends a little on the school. E Alamance and Cedar Ridge appear to be pretty close, maybe a slight edge to E Alamance. I've heard some people prefer some of the other high schools more. One thing to note though, is that the Alamance taxes are like .99 and Orange is like 1.35
