Interesting that Governor Bev Perdue presents the Lone Pine Award to Rev Barber considering that he has been arrested on at least two ocasions recently when protesting against the Wake County School Boards plans.

Governor Perdue presented Barber with the Long Leaf Pine award at an anniversary banquet in the Bull City. The banquet was held to honor the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People's 75th anniversary. The Long Leaf Pine award is given to individuals who have a proven record of service to the state. The governor praised Reverend Barber for his work with the Wake County School board.

The order of the long leaf pine is a joke! What has this guy done that deserves any award? Purdue is one of the worst Governors this state has seen, besides the one right before her.

Sometimes you will get arrested if you have to stand for something you fill is injustice b/c the other party can't do anything else. Considering the fact that Martin Luther King, Jr. was arrested at least 29 times I don't think that has any bearing on him recieving the award. Who would dare say Martin Luther King Jr. doesn't deserve one of his awards because he was arrested. Not me.

Most people have a problem with Rev Barber b/c they don't agree with him. Those people are understandably the majority.

What kind of role model is someone that practically incites riots requiring
a huge tax payer expense for security just to conduct a board meeting.
