Hi there,
I saw some decent looking condo for sale on the govt HUD website at address 322 Junction Road, Durham, 27703. There are 3 or 4 listed. When I google this address I don't come up with the name of an apt/condo complex. Is there something wrong with this area? Is it dangerous? What are so many units for sale?
Thanks,
Jane

I mapquested it and it is off Cheek Road. Cheek road is known to be a bad area. I am not that familiar with Junction Road itself. When I taught at Southern Durham, I used to take that road. Some of that area is okay, but I know Cheek road is a high crime area.

Actually, 322 isn't near the Cheek Rd intersection at all (map says 1.2 mi away). Durham is well known for having streets with vast differences from one part of a street to another. My favorite example is Kent St. starting in Forest Hills. The end of the street is like night and day in comparison to the other side in Lakewood.

It's really closer to Holloway. I would say that this probably isn't the greatest area to be looking at to buy in. However, if that's what your money can afford, go for it.

One thing to be mindful of is that this area is near railroad tracks and if the activity is anything like the one coming through the East Durham station (most likely), it can be very annoying with trains coming at all hours of the day and night.
