the price will depend significantly upon the type of wood and quality of wood that is used. A single room can cost $2000 or $12000. What materials were you quoted?
Yup, the costs really vary depending on cost of the actual flooring. Are you looking at flooring that is $5 squre foot + install labor or $16 square foot + install.
Sedaris is supposed to be a good local company.
I do not recomend Carolina Flooring on Wake Forest Road in North Raleigh. Do yourself a favor and avoid them at all costs. We had them do work for us and it was a nightmare.
We had hardwood floors installed in our family room last week. The room size is about 14 x 16. We picked oak to match the rest of the floors in our house. The total cost was $1780. We got quotes from a few places, including Sedaris, but decided to go with BD's Hardwood Floors out of Raleigh. They did a great job. No complaints. Their # is (919) 847-7444.
We're shopping for hardwood floors for the ground floor of our house. We stopped in at Floors-to-Go on Glenwood on Saturday and talked to one of their salesmen. I asked him to give me a "ballpark" estimate on tearout and install only, not materials, and he said about $2.50/sq ft.
Most of the wood that we were looking at were considered "exotic" and these were priced from $7.50/sq ft and up. Now this is misleading, because any wood other than oak was being labeled as exotic by this guy. I can see this being the case for Brazilian walnut, but they also considered American walnut as exotic.
So, if you are considering oak, I would say that you should be able to get something for under $10/sq ft. Holt4fam was charged about $8/sq ft for oak, so that seems to be in line with this estimate. This is all based on my one and only shopping trip so far.
