I think we're waaaaay overdue to abandon the county school system and split into community-run schools
But isn't it the high taxes needed to pay for all those community run schools what everyone is fleeing the NE to get away from? There is TONS of duplication in community run schools, and they are VERY expensive. That is why most places in the country are moving to county wide schools.

Whether that is a good idea or not, it could never happen here due to the diversity issues.

Are you familiar with the history of how and when we got to a county school system to begin with?

Yes. But considering uncontrollable growth that has been allowed to happen it's now too big and too much of a political platform to be an effective system.

On the contrary, I think it would help subdue the diversity issue.

Yes, it is quite a mess isn't it...really a microcosm of what is happening at a national level. But I think parents were running towards private schools under the old system also...

What we really need is stability...and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Most of the south uses county wide systems. No, it's not the way you did it "up north" but the thought of community schools, each having its own school board, just about sends me into an irreversible tizzy. 10 John Tedescos running about? I don't THINK so!

Yeah. . . back in 2000 they should have said:

"Sorry. Nobody else is allowed to move to Wake county. Our school system can't handle it."
