Mine charges $150 for the cleaning alone. Absolutely nothing else.

I did an Internet search, and I've seen rates from $75 to $128 (without insurance), and some including x-rays!

What do you pay? I want to go elsewhere if I can get it done cheaper.

P.S. I just called up and tried to negotiate it lower, calling 10 minutes after the first time. They now tell me it costs $313. I need to find someone else.

I pay nothing b/c my insurance covers it, but its always $120 when I see the bill that says don't pay. Its been $120 a cleaning for atleast 3 years or so.

Mine was in the $150 range for a long time, but is close to $200 now. I've been thinking about changing dentists for a long time, mostly because mine's "bedside manner" is kind of aloof and fakey, and this may be the final straw, even if I have been going to the same practice (different DDSs) for over 40 years.

Exam $69, cleaning $82, x-rays $53, for $204 total. Less 20% if paying cash, $163, in Angier.

$68 cleaning; $40 exam; $48 x-rays - so $108 - $156 depending on whether you get x-rays. That is the price before insurance was filed, on a visit in 2009 (I couldn't find the one from this spring). I also noticed in looking back that our first visit at this dentist, the exam was higher - it was billed as a "comprehensive exam" instead of "routine exam" - so when interviewing new dentists, you might think to ask about cost of initial visit vs. routine 6-month visits after that.

I was also told by the dentist office that it was an "NC Law" that in doing a cleaning and exam, they HAD to take X-rays.

Does anyone know if this is true? Can the dental industry lobbyists be that powerful in NC?

IF it is law (which I doubt, but could be very wrong) it's only once a year - I have twice a year cleanings and only once-a-year x-rays.

I found this on the site of a dentist in another part of NC:

"Generally, we follow the American Dental Association’s guidelines for when x-rays are needed. We take x-rays of your posterior teeth (bitewings) every 24 to 30 months and full mouth x-rays (FMX) every 7-10 years. We sometimes take x-rays more often, especially of individual teeth, to help your dentist evaluate your teeth for dental disease."

This same office recommended cleanings/exams every 6 months at a minimum (said some people need to come 3-4 times per year), so they obviously do exams/cleanings without x-rays.

I may even talk to my dentist about reducing x-rays to every 24 months instead of every 12.
