I'm going to pop in here for a little preventive modding .....

This topic is already under discussion in the Politics/Other Controversies and if anyone wants to discuss the "larger issues," that's the place to do it.

Let's please keep the discussion here focused on the local aspects of the situation.

Thanks!

It's a shame that one ignorant person has put Raleigh under the National Microscope resulting in broad (and inaccurate) generalizations.

I thought Cameron Village was supposed to be one of the more gay friendly areas of Raleigh? What a shame ANYwhere, but especially in an area touted for acceptance.

That's what I thought too. It's kind of discouraging.

The reality is that it only takes ONE person's actions to make a story such as this one. And, it's safe to assume that this ONE person's action is not indicative of the shopping center or the immediate community.
That all said, it would be naive to think that this sort of social discrimination couldn't happen anywhere....because it can.

Interesting that she just happened to be the co-founder of a liberal advocacy group, and she organized a rally at Cameron Village later. Sounds almost like a setup.

I think it's more like she was discriminated against and was lucky enough to be a self advocate, and advocate for others, already and have the connections to set up a rally to prevent others from going through the same thing.
