I was wondering if anyone knows of any good, trustworthy used car dealers here in the Raleigh area? I'd love to hear some good (or bad) experiences while used car shopping? I need a very cheap (<5K) temporary replacement car for a little while. Thanks in advance!

If you are willing to travel out of the city, I got a great deal on a Nissan Sentra at a lot in Johnston County called Cleveland Springs which is on Highway 42 at Cornwallis, just off I-40. I bought it before I moved back to Texas and the car got me here and then some.

A co-worker recently bought a late model used Volvo from Carmax on 70 and is very happy.
Seriously, we bought our used Ford from an Acura/Infiniti dealership in Cary--it was dirt cheap and still under warranty. I'd like to think that someone who trades in their old car for an Infiniti probably took pretty good care of the original vehicle. Plus, I like to negotiate, and you can't do that at Carmax.

I agree there are alot of used cars that are certified by the company at the car dealers. Say If I want a used BMW, I would want it certified from BMW.
Drive to a smaller town like Henderson or Louisburg for a better deal on a new car. (Don't know about used)
Take advantage of how quickly you can leave the "city" and be in a small town where good people abound and don't take advantage of everyone. In Raleigh, car dealers are as predatory as LA or New Jersey.
Also visit any dealer at the end of the month for a better deal. Also do your research regarding pricing, blue book value etc.
