I recently bought a car radio that has RDS. I was surprised to see there are not more stations broadcasting the RDS info.

The radio can get the time from the RDS signal. Occasionally, the radio will show the wrong time. I am guessing one of the stations is sending the wrong info, but since I skip around a lot, I'm not sure which one it may be. I did notice that WBBB (96.1) briefly had song/artist info in their feed, but now only has station info.

Back in Michigan, almost every station broadcast the song/artist info. Down here, I rarely if ever get the info.

Until I saw your post I'd forgotten about the RDS feature on my truck's radio. I've had it for six years now. It rarely shows anything, even while traveling outside of the area. When it does get info it's usually incorrect.

Does it make sense for a broadcaster to spend incremental money on RBDS? Has it been shown to increase audience? My guess is that it hasn't, and meanwhile broadcasters have seen the ad market tighten up since 2008.
