There are also management jobs available in retail. And if those jobs are filled already, starting out in retail (part time or full time) isn't a bad way to get into a managment position.

Lamishra, Harris Teeter is a very good company to work for. You are right...they do give lots of benefits and they do promote within.

And as Mrs. Rhythm said, not everyone is highly educated and some people who ARE highly educated prefer jobs that are less stressful. Many people do work in retail, full time.

I hope we can continue this thread, in the way it was intended: to be helpful.

Vicki

Agree fully, Vicki.

A friend of mine has a Master's in English and has been a Walmart greeter over 9 years.

Many PhD's drive taxis in NYC.

I personally kept operating a Shell station on grave shift for 2 years after getting my BA degree because I loved the job.

Harris Teeter has plenty of advancement oppurtunities also. I work at a law firm downtown raleigh, hold a degree and am very motivated. But a few years ago saving to buy my house I got a part time gig as a cashier at HT. Lo and behold they have profit sharing even for part timers. Wherever there is $ nowadays I say find it. Whether it be at the top of the mountain or underneath!
