I currently live in Northern VA . I am looking to relocate to the Raleigh area sometime next year (before the next school year). I am currently work in the IT environment and working on my MBA in Project Management.

I have already started my job search and not really having any luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to relocate with a job already lined up.

IT and IT Project Manager jobs have been hard hit. I know two excellent PMs who have not had any luck in a very long time. They both do other things now.

Sign up for job alerts on Indeed.com. Contact local IT recruiters and ask for their help and advice.

Some IT skills are still in demand. Recruiters will be able to tell you which ones.

I think if I has to wait until the recession is over I'd kill somone up here. I am starting to hate the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) with a passion.

Thanks for the advice. I am trying to get my company to transfer me but with the changes going on up here I don't think they are trying to let me go.

IBM and NetApp are hiring quite a few people. EMC also seems to always be hiring.

If your main goal is to get out of DC, there are other places with better job markets than here--look at places in Texas, Omaha, or Indianapolis. One of the big reasons the job market is so tight here is so many people thinking they HAD to move here and only here. The wider net you cast, the better your odds, at least until the economy gets better.
