Thought I'd toss this out to see if anyone's interested in a general "chat" thread for the long holiday weekend.

Say "hello" to your online friends, or tell us about your Thanksgiving get-together, or relate your adventures in shopping, etc.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I think everyone is too busy snoozing after their big holiday meals!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

(Oh and I'm thankful that my first ever attempt at bread pudding came out great!)

My roast was a colossal failure. Good thing I had so many sides as the roast wasn't fit to eat. It will however, make a good stew after I cook it in liquid for about another hour. I made a from scratch pumpkin pie and we were all too full to even want the pie so we get it tomorrow.

other sides were cheese grits souffle, green bean casserole, baked carrot fries, mashed garlic potatoes with homemade gravy, two tone jello salad with mandarin oranges, dinner rolls., icea tea.
my cheese grits dishes are legendary and always please everybody. Holiday wouldn't be holiday without cheese grits casserole.

I'm visiting my parents in NoVa/my brother in DC. I stayed at their house in DC on Wednesday night and couldn't sleep for worrying that someone would steal the christmas presents right out of my car.

I was going over my plans to move to the triangle with my brother who went to Chapel Hill/lived in Raleigh, and still has many friends in the area. He and my SIL said "you know, the DC metro area is a GREAT place to live"

I almost said "why in the heck would anyone want to live here? It is a terrible place to live!" Don't get me wrong, they have carved out a great spot for themselves...they have a beautifully renovated home, only need one car due to great public transit, have tons of friends, are active in their community. But I just can't reconcile the expense, crime and traffic---how could that be more appealing compared to NC?

Dinner was GREAT! My job was to play with my 21 month old nephew. It was rough duty.

We spent Thanksgiving at my mom's in the log house where I grew up over on Sunnybrook Rd. At 85 she's still doing it all just like she has for the last 60 some years. I had a lot to be thankful for

Hubby contributed at the rescue mission whilst I was busy creating a feast at home for the family. This is my favorite time of the year. Please remember all the less fortunate through the holidays and all year long. The stress of day to day life can make people forget just how lucky they have it even in hard times. A bad day for us is better than a good day for the homeless.

Please share your blessings with those in need.

We spent our first holiday weekend without family, it was a lot harder than I thought. Any suggestions for dealing with Christmas (especially for kids) would be great!!

I actually cooked, for maybe the 2nd time in my life! It was just DH and me. He smoked a turkey breast on his big green egg (yummy) and I did the sides. Nice, relaxing day of food, football, and naps.

As Blissfully mentioned, I too feel it is important to remember those in need. I found that it was very easy to adopt an "angel" through the Salvation Army on the JC Penney website, shop for them there, and have the items shipped for free. Still had the fun of shopping, without the crowds, and hopefully making a small difference in someone else's life.

Go to the beach! Start a new tradition.

I haven't been able to move at all for the last 4 days because I wrenched my back. So husband happily took the family to the Cameron Village cafeteria for Thanksgiving. They were all more than fine with it; they went very early before the crowds. Made me rethink all the stress of the holidays. Seems that nobody cares about tradition except me.

I'm going to rethink Christmas this year. I'm no Martha Stewart, but I try very hard to make everything as nice as possible for the holidays. Now I'm wondering why. Maybe it's time to chill.
