I would like to find some scrap carpet pieces to repair my two cats' scratching posts. I live in Chapel Hill and would like to find someplace close. Any suggestions?

Obviously I want something free. I guess I could start calling stores but was hoping somebody in the area had experience with this and could direct me to someplace local.

I'd look at communities where new homes are being built. They're always throwing away scrap carpet, lumber, etc.

There is a scrap exchange place in Durham that sells left over and donated stuff. They usually have carpet sample squares...

Go to a new subdivision where houses are under construction and dumpster dive for the carpet pieces. However, if this is for the "scratching" part of the cat tree, consider replacing the carpet posts for sisal wrapped ones.

Go to some local carpet stores and see if they have any discontinued samples.

Hey--I was just checking out Craigslist and looked at the free section. Someone has carpet remnants listed as of today. They have them out curbside and give the address.
