I am looking to replace my TWC supplied internet modem w/ my own and save the monthly TWC charge. What I am wondering about is what equipment others have used to replace the TWC modems. Did u encounter any problems?

Their website says if you buy your own modem then you might get a small discount (depending on what area you receive service in). Can I get a discount if I buy my own cable modem? | Time Warner Cable | East (http://www.timewarnercable.com/East/site.faqs/HighSpeedO/InternetCa/Can-I-get-a-discount-if-I-buy- - broken link)

I'm sure the discount would be very small and the website also says modems other than the ones they provide for you aren't guaranteed to provide the same level of performance. I've never had any problems with the TWC modem I use for Internet service. I don't use them for my TV service though, went to DIRECTV a couple of years ago and don't regret that switch.

Last time I looked into, I think it was a discount of 3 bucks or so a month.

If TWC is about to deploy DOCSIS 3.0 for higher speed and you want to obtain that higher speed, it may not be in your interest to purchase a slower modem.

Also note that if you buy the modem and you have a lightning strike -- it happened to me once -- you'll have to buy a replacement.

I have my own DSL and Cable modems. I move a lot (military) and refuse to rent the equipment or do the whole rebate thing with internet providers. Over time the equipment you purchase on your own will pay for itself.

If you want a TWC branded modem just jump on ebay. You might find one fairly cheap.
