This Christmas we have decided to grill steaks on Christmas Eve .
(we had our fill of holiday food at Thanksgiving.)
Does anyone order online steaks or have a local source for good
steaks.

I like Costco meat (membership req.d), I noticed that last time I was there they did have reasonably priced prime meat as well as their usual choice selection.

If you want to splurge, the there is the Meat Market at Cary and Fresh Market both of which sell good quality meat

The thing with frozen (online) meats is that after they defrost they are sitting in puddles of juice. No matter where you get your steaks from be sure that BEFORE you put them atop the grill that they are completely dry-dry them off with paper towels. Any moisture on the surface of the steak will steam the meat. You won't get a good sear and the meat will be tough.

If I buy meat it comes from Larry's Supermarket in Raleigh. They have great steaks

For higher end cuts we go to Fresh Market. Otherwise - it comes from Costco (and Costco isn't bad cuts at all - just sometimes they won't have what we're looking for)

King's Red & White on Club Blvd in Durham gets good reviews. So does Cliff's Market in Carrborro. Both places still have on-site butchers.

I agree with posters who mentioned The Meat Market in Cary. Their products are delicious. The butchers know their cuts and can even recommend on different ones to try.

I also saw the Omaha Steaks (online) is having a big sale this week, with free shipping!

The Meat House (Saltbox Village) in Cary has wonderful, FRESH cuts of any meat you want. Dry aged beef, too. They are professionals. If you order frozen meat or meat from Costco, Sam's, etc. then you are going to get exactly what you pay for. It's the difference between Angus Barn and Golden Corral.

They also have nice condiments, sauces, etc., plus Balsamic Vinegar and Extra Virgin Olive Oil that you decant on-site.

I would also second the recommendation for Cliff's Meat Market in Carrboro/Chapel Hill. Excellent selection and a professional butcher staff. Try some of their local sausage on the grill. Seriously.
