Hoping someone has some good advice! Just moved from CT to NC and the baby is due in April 2010, this our first baby and need a recommendation on a great female ob/gyn in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary area.

Anyone have any recommendations of a nice facility with all female physicians? I have looked up and I am not able to find any such facility, any help will be truly appreciated!

I believe the midwives practice at UNC is all female. They deliver at UNC hospitals, and work with the UNC ob/gyn practice (which is not all female) if there are complications. My wife delivered both our children with them, and they were wonderful.

You could also try the Birth and Wellness center.

Women's Birth & Wellness Center. Chapel Hill, North Carolina

There is so much estrogen in that place it is scary (I am male...).

We had 2 of our 3 children there. My wife loved it. But note, this is a birth center and not a hospital. So, everything is about natural birth and breast feeding.

toot68, chiledog - Thanks a alot for the information!

I first tried the "Women's Birth & Wellness Center" but they said they are all booked for the month of April . Then I checked with the UNC Midwives and they have asked for my records to be faxed to them and then they will be able to give me an appointment.

I hope this works out and I don't have to look more. Again, thank you very much for your prompt and detailed replies! I am really grateful!

If the UNC Midwives don't work out for some reason, you might also consider Duke Women's Health Associates. They do have one male doc (out of seven total), but the odds are definitely in favor of you having the bulk of your care with a female OB, and the one male doc there (Dr. Nieves) has really great a bedside manner.

Best of luck with your search and your little one on the way!

I am due in Feb 11. I go to a practice in Durham with one male doctor. I also prefer an all female staff. Fortunately I have never had a pelvic exam by him (or any man, ever). I know which appts are the ones to avoid him and so far it seems to be working out just fine. I don't think I would recommend my practice to anyone---but just giving you something to consider if there is only one male at the practice it might not be a deal-breaker.

Dr. Sarah Maddison and Dr. Tammi Stephens at MID Carolina OBGYN are wonderful. I think they have 1 or 2 men on their staff, but it's mostly women. They're at Rex.
