I'm a 27 year old single female considering a move to the Raleigh area. I've lived on Long Island, NY my whole life - I have family who live in Cary and have been down to visit many times. A couple years ago I considered a move down to NC but wasn't ready to pull the trigger. So here I am, back to contemplating the move. I'm not familiar with the downtown area of Raleigh - being that I'm a single twenty-something I would like to be in an area where I had the potential to meet friends/peers rather than living in an area with all families - does anyone have suggestions? I also know that this area has quite a few colleges - I've been out of college for a few years now and am not all that interested in being in the "college bar" scene either - does Raleigh have a young professional area? Lastly - I know that the cost of living in Long Island inflates the salaries, I currently make approx. $45k working for a finance company as a sales assistant - are their opportunities to make that kind of money in this area?
I don't think salaries in Raleigh are that much lower than LI really. Even if you had to take a paycut you would live better on 30K here than you could on 45K up there. (I don't know how you are surving on 45K on LI!) The tough part will be finding a job at all. Start firing out those resumes, I look forward to hearing how the job search goes.
Seems like the place for young singles here is Cameron Village/Glenwood South...but you might want to check out Durham also...
