An Interesting article was published on the Transport Politic yesterday about future Rail projects in the Triangle area. I think its very impressive , NC seems to have alot of future Transit / Regional plans. If your wondering , why there are 2 rail lines running parallel to each other , the Commuter / Amtrak lines would act as an Express Rail line and the Light Rail would be = to a bus with 2x more capacity. You can easily add more Capacity to a LRT line by coupling up too 3 trains together.

Haha, sad but true.

This is all just the same talk they do every year. Talk and more talk and studies. Until I see rail laid somewhere or a station build downtown, it's just all words on paper.

(Don't get me wrong though, I want LRT as soon as possible. This constant road building we're doing is not sustainable.)

Question Raleigh's Rail System?

How many rail lines does Raleigh have and how far into the 'burbs do they go? What are the fees?

There are no rail lines outside of Amtrak and commercial trains.

No Light Rail in the Triangle.

Seriously, we don't have near the traffic issues you do! Commutes are so much easier.

Check out who is number 50 in the link below. Our traffic issues will continue to worsen as we grow and the widening of I40 is a temporary solution as additional lanes encourage additional growth in the 'burbs.

How long have they been talking about this?

As I recall, the federal Department of Transportation rejected the funding requests for the light rail proposals that had been presented, concluding that the automobile commute times and rail ridership numbers used to support the proposals were not credible.

The fact that Triangle is not centralized around a central core substantially complicates the possibility of a rail solution for our area.
