My family may be moving to Raleigh and would love to get some information on the neighborhoods surrounding raleigh. My spouse may be attending graduate school at NCSU and we would like to live in walking distance to the university. Any suggestions?

Kirby-Bilyeu. It's a funky neighborhood across the street over Western. It's either EXACTLY what you're looking for or the polar opposite.

Check out the neighborhood(s) behind Hillsborough St/around Cameron Village. (Around the Rose Garden/Raleigh Little Theater). If you find one on the street or two behind Hillsborough, be aware that the roads will be full of students parking during peak times. (9am to 2ish pm). I can't think of any non student apartment neighborhoods that are within walking distance that I'd feel comfortable living in.

I think it would be really important to know whether his program would be on main campus or on Centennial...There are also a lot of apartments on the school's busline. I lived in one of those my junior and senior years and was very happy.
