I know, yet another post, but I have no idea where to even start on this one. I'm a big college football fan and will be travelling to Raleigh next week to work and look at places to live. I'm going to be staying at a hotel downtown and want to check out a fun and friendly sports bar in the area where I won't feel like an idiot being all by myself. Any suggestions would be great!

Sit at the bar at Tobacco Road in the 222 Glenwood building. The bartenders are friendly and there's sure to be a lot of people there for the game since it is a sports bar. They've got some great real food there in addition to the typical sports bar fare.

Sounds perfect, thanks Miami!

In the same neighborhood, you can also try Hi5. It's a few blocks north at 510 Glenwood. Some of the tables there have private TV's. I don't know if the food has improved at Tobacco Road or not. I went there soon after opening and I wasn't impressed with the food or the sizes of their servings. Perhaps it's improved? Who knows?
At Hi5, all menu items are $5 and it's pretty good bar food. If you want a little more classic sports put, you can try Hibernian (also on Glenwood). It's located between the other two venues but on the other side of the street. Frankly, you can walk from one venue to the others in just a few minutes. So, arrive early and check them all out and see which one fits best for you. Have fun!

The food has not improved at Tobacco Road. I have been there a few times and I have never been impressed. The Village Draft House had pretty good food if you can make it out to Cameron Village.
