I'd be happy to pay a pet tax if I could also claim them as dependents and deduct their expenses

I would assume that the $$ collected is used to help support the cost of an animal control department. Personally I don't mind having to pay the fee. Compared to the overall cost of keeping a cat or dog it is nominal. And I like knowing we have an animal control officer around to help with strays or other problems.

Personally, I have no issue with paying a small fee for my 3 dogs, but I have tho say that if they tried to charge the fee on dogs only and not cats, I would have to question that. Since way more cat owners let their cats run free at night there is no logical argument that cats don't cause at least as much issue for animal control as dogs.

I'm a KS resident and don't file a NC state tax return (military), so hell no, I'm not paying a tax on my sweet puppy dog.

Good lord. Once again, there is NO statewide pet tax in North Carolina. Period. If you live in a city that requires a license and you choose not to pay it, though, you're breaking the law whether you're an NC resident or not.

Did anyone else get the memo? There is no state pet tax.

I've been trying for YEARS to have mine added to my insurance policy.

It costs me a $15 co payment to take daughter to pediatrician and $60 to take pet to the vet.

What pet insurance are you using? I have wondered if it would be worth it.
