We've all seen gas prices climb to the $3.00 range recently. I can remember during the "gas wars" in the early '70's when gas was under .30/gallon.
What I cannot remember, however, is the last time I pumped my own gas. I suspect it was either during the Carter or (probably) the Reagan administration.

How about you? Just a little curious.
Umm, yesterday? Who pumps for you?
Gasoline, 1970 = $.36/gal, 1979 = $.86/gal
I pumped fuel today...when I started driving (1976) gas was climbing towards the .86 cent mark and they started the advertising about how the next generation might not have any gas. I was worried iot was going to over a $1.00 a gallon and I could not afford to drive anywhere. Being in Detroit we used to go to Canada where it was still .12 cents a liter in 1976.
I can barely remember when I went to a full-service station, actually. Seems like ever since I've been driving (early 80's) all of the gas stations I used were all full service.
I do remember a family vacation in NC in the 70's near Joyce Kilmer National Park. My siblings and I were hiking around in the park, and when we left we went to a gas station that had 15 cent gas and 10 cent ice cream. This would have been somewhere around '70 or '71.
I'm so old I remember when gas was .19 and a pack of cigs about the same. And I had to learn how to check my own oil, change a tire and check air pressure before my father let me get my license.
I haven't had anybody but my husband pump gas for me in over 36 years.
Agree with lovebrentwood, I think OP meant "did not" pump own gas. For me, the last time was many years ago in Oregon. (Oregon and New Jersey - states where can't pump your own gas). I was on a really long stretch of highway at night in the middle of nowhere and was rollin' on fumes. I finally saw a sign for gas and took the exit - I had to meander 2 or 3 miles and finally happened upon this backwoods crazy lookin' station - there was a single pump and an airstream parked near it. It was scary!! I started hearin' the banjo music from the movie Deliverance.
Had no choice tho - I had to stop. I got out to pump and outta nowhere this crazy fool throws open the door to the airstream and it hit the side so hard I thought he was shootin' at me! I just about soil'd my drawers!! He comes runnin' at me yellin' - Hey, no pumpin' your own gas!! You're in Oregon now!!!
Sorry for the digression...
