I have a house built in 2003 and the GE appliances are slowly dying.

I just ordered a new garbage disposal and now it's time for the gas stove. I had a repair person out who swapped in some new parts, moved things around, but couldn't fix the problem we're having. One burner doesn't work at all, another goes up then down then up when you're turning the knob.

If this were any other appliance I would just head out to Sears or maybe HH Greg, but for this type of appliance I don't know. I have a four burner stove with the vent/exhaust fan right in the middle. Are all cook tops with the fan in the middle compatible with each other (would they line up) or would I need to stick with GE to make sure it will fit?

I am not looking forward to replacing this. It seems like it will be a big hassle. I would appreciate any suggestions. I don't even know how much these things cost yet.

Why not go to Lowe's? Their selection is great, customer service is top notch and you'll get the best deal outside of an internet wholesaler.

We bought all our appliances (new house) from Ferguson's (Raleigh). I shopped around for all the best prices on everything, and they matched them all.....on one or two, they were the lowest to start.

I was actually surprised by Lowes minimal selection of gas (propane) stoves (Garner and Crossroads stores). I ended up buying online and having the gas company install it when they hooked up our new line.

Sounds like a downdraft model. I have an electric cooktop with downdraft that I was thinking of replacing. None of the standard stuff at Lowe's etc is downdraft. It is special order which adds $$$$ to the price.

I second the Jeffrey's recommendation. They are located off of Capital Blvd, great selection and very knowledgable staff!
