I'm playing my trombone with a group at a gig in the Bryan Center on Duke campus this weekend. I know there is a pay garage right next to the Bryan center, but are there any free places nearby to park on the weekend?

I know there are some Duke grads on the forum so I thought I might be able to get the inside scoop here.

Thanks!

Parking is not enforced after hours on weekends. There are some on-street spaces on Circuit Drive that you could use. You then have to walk a block south and a block over to get to the Bryan Center (it's easiest to walk through the Chemistry lot, around French Science Center, and across Science Drive to get to the Bryan Center).

All bets are off if there's a basketball game, though.

Are you playing with the Bulltown Strutters?

Thanks for the tips. This will be around 5pm saturday and I don't think there is a game so I am hopeful it wouln't be too bad.

Yup, you guessed it! I'm playing with the Bulltown Strutters!

Technically speaking, I heard Duke is a private police force, and a ticket on its campus doesn't chase you after you leave campus...

Duke's cops are full-fledged police, with the authority to carry weapons, make arrests, and issue citations. They just happen to be employed by the university.

Not saying they'll throw you in a campus clink for skipping out on a parking ticket, but still not advisable to blow them off.

You should be fine any time on a Saturday, and after 6:00 or so on weekdays. The only thing to watch out for are the "reserved spots" that have individual permit numbers listed on them. They says towing enforced 24/7, and it's true (although you only get towed if the owner of the spot calls in and complains that you're in it).

I always drive my truck when I go there and park behind the French Science building at the small maintenance/contractors office. The truck just blends in withthe others.
