Very true - I'm sure I tend to portray things at the extremes sometimes (although at times just to make a point). "Crunchy" certainly is/can be more about mindset and leanings than lifestyle, and Chapel Hill does exude a more laid-back and liberal atmosphere, even if it is an upscale version of it. There's still part of me, though, that sees "crunchy" as folks who wear Birkenstock sandals and socks, sport a pony tail and a bald spot, wear clothes made from hemp, and shop at the Carrboro farmer's market and Weaver Street to support their macrobiotic vegetarian diet.

that's funny. DH wears sandals with socks, not cause he is crunchy but cause he is a nerd, is bald and threatens to grow a pony tail but probably won't, we have no hemp clothes but we do shop at the Carrboro Farmers market and Weaver Street to support our decidedly non vegetarian, non macrobiotic diet, and a lot of times to people watch.

New house = HOA. Don't buy all the stories you hear, though. 99% of people and 99% of HOAs are fine and have no issues.
