I thought the quick honkers were pretty bad when I hesitated at a left hand turn light momentarily while I sneezed. How long can it take me to sneeze? Goodness. But then yesterday I was honked at for stopping for a school bus to let out some kids. Seriously. I did not understand that.

Yeah... that's happened to me with the school bus thing. Weird, isn't it? I guess I should mow down those kindergartners?

The other day, a lady honked at me for not moving out into the middle of the intersection at High House to make a left turn (onto High House from Cary Parkway). I had to turn around and look at her and give her a "really, lady???" expression.

There were about 4 cars that were turning left to go the other way onto High House from Cary Parkway, and 2 of those were SUVs. I could NOT see into the intersection. Shuh. Like I'm gonna pull all out there.

I was just saying this to my fiancee the other day... seems like all the newcomers (includes me too) are making it pretty stressful at times. I've only been here 3 years and have noticed a significant change in driving attitudes over this time. During our first year I became acclimated to the slower driving and the reduced stress--now it's all coming back

The cops don't pull over the crazy people.

I tend to drive a little fast sometimes (ok, most of the time) and it's never enforced on me.

I probably just jinxed myself though, definitely getting a ticket tonight.

I've lived here all my life and it seems that a new bad habit has emerged. People seem to think it's ok to run the red light on a left turn signal. You will see it at every major intersection in the city now -- I don't get it. I guess they assume that all other lanes are stopped for the left turn so a t-bone is not likely to happen.

Other pet peeves include people that constantly cross the center line on curvy country roads and then meander back to the right when other cars are approaching or they begin climbing a hill. Also, I can't stand it when I am waiting at a stop sign for a car to pass only to find out that they were making a right turn onto the same street that I am waiting on! Stop being rude and signal people!!!

When we moved here ten years ago, you never heard a car horn. Never. What a difference a decade makes.

Agreed. Still happens outside Raleigh. Complete light cycle, no honks. Slippery slope between having manners for someone who may have stalled vs. someone not paying attention ...

I try honking people when they don't signal and just stop in the middle of the road. I don't think the poor folks know why I'm honking them.

I've often seen something similar where people will have to yields for a left tuen on green, but will place them selves in the intersection so that even if the light turns red they can complete their turn. People in the area have doen this for many years. The problem is that it's directly opposed to a transplant tendency to run red lights. When living in NoVa me and my wife called it the "Virginia Rule" that when a light turn red the next 3 cars were allowed to pass through the light. It was so common that most stop lights accounted for it, and most people would not go on a green until opposing traffic was at a complete stop. Versus here where people will anticipate green lights and start their forward motion before the light changes.
