Instead of going north west into Cary, like I normally do for dining out, I decided to go due west and give Holly Springs a chance. I looked up Holly Springs in Google Maps and asked for it to search for nearby restaurants. Once you weeded out the Subways, and Dominos, and Chinese take-out, it seemed like there were only about 6 restaurants, and half of them were pizza. Maybe Google Maps is missing some? Maybe that's all there is? I ended up going to the Bass Lake Draught House. Hey Holly Springs residents! Any restaurants to try, or should I keep driving to Cary and Apex?
The FUNNY thing is that when we lived in Cary in the 1980s...we had the SAME COMPLAINT! No restaurants! EVERY Friday night, we drove to Raleigh. And now look at Cary! Makes you think Holly Springs will be very similar in the next few years.
I believe Rudinos was there then closed and is now re-opened? Or was it called something else before? My family and I went there when we first moved here around 9-10 months ago and we all got severely ill afterwards. Obviously food poisoning. We all had a pizza and salad. so I don't know what the culprit was but it was definitely from that place as it was the only thing we all had eaten the same. Plus it hit us within an hour of eating there. Left a bad taste in my mouth and I would find it hard to go back. But maybe not it is reopened under new ownership and is better (not only did it leave us sick it was terrible)
The old restaurant in that location was called Italian Pie, not Rudino's. I'm pretty sure it's completely unrelated. The initial reviews of the place seem good - folks are excited about a better sports bar in Apex than Sparks (which I've heard is really bad, very smoky, etc.). Smoking is allowed on the porch at Rudino's, but not inside.
And yes, there are way too many pizza/italian restaurants. That's why I was so happy to see an Indian place go in (in place of a pizzeria!).
currently we are lacking on restaurants, but by this time next year we will have a nice variety. There are several large shopping centers going in on the by-pass and from what I understand, several restaurants will be among the stores.
They will be most likely chains, like mcdonalds and such. We need some real stuff!

Good luck with that! Even with all the construction in Apex, we are getting primarily chains. The next two restaurants being built are TGI Fridays and IHOP.
As another poster mentioned, Sweet Basil has great Thai/Vietnamese cuisine. It's a tiny restaurant in the Arbor Creek shops on 55 (Main Street) in Holly Springs. The decor isn't dazzling, but the food is great. I like the original pad thai, and my husband likes the sweet version. The summer rolls are delicious. The portions are huge, so you can stretch one entree into 2-3 meals.
...We are also getting a restaurant to replace Cheeburger Cheeburger (which closed). It should be opening within the next month and is called Kenny's Classics (I think) and is supposed to be "down home" cooking.
STAY FAR FAR AWAY from "Kenny's Classics"...
If you do some research, you will find it is owned by the same incompetent "owner/manager" that owned the Cheeburger Cheeburger there and Brier Creek.
Wife and I decided to check this place out after they opened in Brier Creek. We paid $6 for a toasted ham and cheese sandwich that tasted like something you would find for $1 at Food Lion, only worse...
