You may want to specify WHERE in RTP your husband's job will be. RTP is rather large. . . . I think that it is 8 miles long and 2 miles wide. The southeastern end butts up against the northwestern border of Morrisville, and Cary is just to the southeast of Morrisville.
Living in Morrisville will practically guarantee a 35 minute commute, no matter what. But parts of Cary, and certainly Apex, are not reachable to the northern end of RTP in 35 minutes.
Is your husband able to do flex time? Varying your commute by only one hour will open up lots of possibilities. I used to commute from south of Lake Wheeler to the southern end of RTP in under 30 minutes by working 7am-4pm.
